Install Veeam Agent for Oracle Solaris

In this post, we are going to look on how to install Veeam Agent for Oracle Solaris (public beta) so we can start to protect this workload.

Veeam Agent for Oracle Solaris is a data protection and disaster recovery solution for machines running Oracle Solaris 9, 10 or 11 on the SPARC architecture and Oracle Solaris 10 or 11 on the x86 architecture. The product provides file-based backup and disaster recovery capabilities.

Veeam Agent for Oracle Solaris offers a variety of features to protect your data. You can create an entire system image backup, back up specific directories with files or individual zones. Backups can be stored in a mounted NFS directory, on a physical tape drive or in a tape library, on an IBM Spectrum Protect (Tivoli Storage Manager) device or a cascaded device.

Before proceeding, make sure you have

a) SunOS VM, do check out the post here to learn how to setup.
b) Upload the installer into the SunOS VM, do check out the post here.

For x86 architecture, the installer is
VeeamAgent-8.1.1.12-i86pc.pkg.tar.gz

[Installation]

1. To install, run the installer with root account privileges
2. Unpack tar gz file

tar -xzf VeeamAgent-8.1.1.12-i86pc.pkg.tar.gz


3. Execute the following command

pkgadd -G -d ./VeeamAgent-8.1.1.12-i86pc.pkg




4. One the installation has complete, type "veeam" to start the program









Transfer file to Oracle Solaris 11.3

In this post, we are going to look into how to transfer a file or installer into Oracle Solaris 11.3.

Firstly, download WinSCP from here


Enter the ip address of the SunOS VM and correct credential


Once connected, you can start to transfer a file. We are transferring  Veeam Agent for Oracle Solaris installer to back up this VM.


Currently, this product is available under public beta. Feel free to download from here.




Install Oracle Solaris 11.3

In this post, we are going to look on installation of Oracle Solatis 11.3 on virtualization platform (Hyper-V or Vmware).

Before we start, remember to download the installer from Oracle website. Click here to download.



[ Installation ]

1. Create a new VM
2. Mount the iso - sol-11_3-text-x86.iso & boot the vm to start the installation
3. The following was the screenshot of the SunOS installation process.
Start by defining the keyboard layout & language.




Let start the installation. Press [F2] to proceed on next screen



 Install SunOS on local disk & set partitition




 Define computer name


Set Networking by defining IP address, subnet mask, gateway or use DHCP


Select timezone




Define root password & create a new user account


Review the configuration & press F2 to start the installation


Just wait a while for the installation to complete.


Voila! Installation SunOS completed.

Refresh Veeam Visio Stencil

Good news SE and SA,

Veeam has just updated their Veeam Visio Stencil on 1st June 2018. Veeam Stencils is a free collection of VMware, Hyper-V and Veeam stencils for Visio. Administrators, system architects and data center managers can now create well-organized and polished visualizations of their data center designs in Microsoft Visio 2013 or 2016 when planning their VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V or Veeam deployments.
