Linux Integration Services 3.5 for Hyper-V Released

 

Happy New Year 2014! visitors. Time to get updated on the latest news happening on Hyper-V. Last month, Microsoft  has released a new Linux integration services (LIS) 3.5 for older linux distributions. For newer Linux distributions, LIS is built into the Linux operating system and no separate download or installation is required.

This version of LIS supports the following version of Hyper-V:-

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard, Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise, and Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter
  • Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 R2
  • Windows 8 Pro
  • Windows 8.1 Pro
  • Windows Server 2012
  • Windows Server 2012 R2
  • Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2012
  • Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2012 R2

This version of LIS supports the following guest operating system

  • RHEL 5.5-5.8, 6.0-6.3 x86 and x64
  • CentOS 5.5-5.8, 6.0-6.3 x86 and x64

Improvements introduce on this version of LIS:-

  • Jumbo frame supported
  • VLAN tagging and trunking
  • Live Migration
  • Static IP injection
  • VHDX resize
  • Virtual Fibre Channel
  • Live virtual machine backup
  • Dynamic Memory –“Ballooning”
  • Synthetic video device

If you’re existing linux virtual machine is running LIS 3.4, you can upgrade to this version.
