Warning 10803- Unable to refresh ...because the file is in use by another process (SCVMM)

You will receive this error message:-

This usually happen when you try to refresh the library in the SCVMM. This occured due to VMs that are currently accessing library vhd files/iso. Due to this you are unable to perform refreshes on them because hyper-v has a lock on them.  Make sure no Hyper V host is accessing the library share folder, no activity (example: copying/access to share folder) and no mountig of CD to VM.

Once you have stop the above activities, you should be able to refresh the library shares.

  1. "no mounting of CD to VM"

Yep, that's my problem, all right. I knew that when searching for 'warning 10803' but the question I have is how to find which machine has the iso mounted. I know I can open the properties of each VM in the GUI and check, but there's got to be a better way.

  2. Did you ever get an answer? I have the same problem and over 300 vms.

  3. I like this your post very much, would you write more and more about this.
