In-place upgrade Hyper V to Hyper V R2

It is time for my lab environment to upgrade Hyper V to Hyper V R2 as the launching is getting nearer.

To perform an in place upgrade is quite straight forward as both is 64x platform. When you put the CD and run it, the setup will perform a compatibility check. It advise that you remove the hyper V roles but you just  ignore it.

Just a few reminder before you upgrade to R2.

a) shutdown your VM. All VM must be offline.
b) remove saved state. Saved state cannot migrated to R2.
c) After upgrade to windows server 2008 R2, you must update the Integration services for all VM guest. To do this, open Virtual Machine connection, select Action and click Insert Integration Services Setup Disk.
d) For connection back to SCVMM 2008 R2, you need to select the host, right click and select Refresh host for several times. The SCVMM will report the host status as "Need Attention". After a while, the host will reported the status "OK"

That's all. Start upgrading to Windows Server 2008 R2 to enjoy more benefit & features.

Good luck..
