Migration of Domain Controller and Infrastructure service

Finally with the simulation of migration of below products,
a) Windows Server 2000 to Windows Server 2008
b) Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008
c) Windows Server 2008 to Windows Server 2008 R2 RC

It is my 1st project under Microsoft IT Pro Momentum program.

I have completed live migration of Windows Server 2000 to Windows Server 2008 in the production environment. All Infrastructure services is up and running after the migration.

My next project will be migration
a) Windows Server 2000 (DC & Infra) to Windows Server 2008 R2
b) Windows Server 2003 (DC & Infra) to Windows Server 2008 R2

R2 here i come....

  1. Nice. what do you mean by the simulation help?

  2. Well, normal practice. We should perform testing on simulation first. For example: Set up virtual machine with the similar environment.

Run all the test first before perform the exact migration. This will reduce the failure rate.

  3. cool...

2 day i tried 2 add in the server 2008 to promote as the secondary DC in the 2003 environment. Overall for the Virtual environment it is success, real life dun knw yet...haha

  4. Thanks Lai .. I thought it that there are simulation tools that show you that before do the real migrations.
But what you said make sense.
